“Won’t Bow Down”: Abhishek Banerjee Hits Back After 11-Hour ED Interrogation

Kolkata , June 16 : Abhishek Banerjee has struck a defiant tone after being questioned for nearly 11 hours by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the alleged school recruitment scam in West Bengal.
Walking out of the ED’s Salt Lake office in Kolkata late Monday night, the Trinamool Congress general secretary made it clear that he would cooperate with investigators but would not back down politically.
“I will come again if they summon me, but we will not surrender even if they slit our throats,” Banerjee said, sending a strong political message amid mounting pressure.
This was the second long interrogation in just two days. A day earlier, Banerjee had faced over eight hours of questioning by the state CID over allegations related to forged MLA signatures linked to the appointment of the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly.
Abhishek Banerjee accused the BJP of trying to weaken opposition forces in West Bengal and create what he called an “opposition-less political system.” He claimed that investigative agencies were being used as tools to intimidate leaders who refuse to fall in line.
At the same time, Banerjee is also facing political turbulence within his own party. Internal rebellion has grown stronger, with several party MLAs and MPs reportedly distancing themselves from the Trinamool Congress leadership.
Reports suggest that more than 60 of the party’s 80 MLAs have formed a separate faction, while a significant number of Lok Sabha MPs have allegedly extended support to the NDA, deepening the crisis for the party.
Adding to his legal troubles, Banerjee has also been summoned by the CID again on Tuesday in another case related to alleged hate speech and accusations of threatening Union Home Minister Amit Shah before the recent Assembly elections.
With back-to-back interrogations, political rebellion, and fresh cases piling up, Abhishek Banerjee now finds himself at the center of one of West Bengal’s biggest political storms.
