Mumbai Woman Arrested for Framing Ex-Partner in False Rape Case to Extort ₹1 Crore

Mumbai: A woman employed at a private bank has been arrested for allegedly framing her former partner, an IT professional, in a false rape case and attempting to extort ₹1 crore from him. According to police officials, Dolly Kotak orchestrated the plot with the help of her brother and four others.

The case was registered by Charkop Police following a directive from a Mumbai Magistrate, who was convinced by the victim’s plea detailing the blackmail and malicious intent behind the complaint. The police have booked Kotak and her accomplices under provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the Information Technology Act, and other relevant penal sections.

Investigations revealed that Kotak, along with three employees from her bank, accessed the victim’s personal banking data and digital footprint, including photos and transaction history, to harass and blackmail him. Her brother, Sagar, who is already out on bail in a POCSO case, played a key role in executing the plan.

The extortion attempts began in May 2024, with Kotak allegedly sending threatening messages to the victim’s phone. One such message read: “You will never win and die in pain. Give money or die in jail.” Despite initially resisting the threats, the victim eventually lost his job after compromising photos and personal data were sent to his employer.

Further reports state that Kotak had linked her phone number to the victim’s email for nearly a year, allowing her to monitor his movements and financial transactions in real-time. The extortion became apparent when she allegedly demanded ₹1 crore from the victim’s sister in return for withdrawing the false complaint and issuing a No Objection Statement.
