KTR Among 22 BRS MLAs Suspended From Telangana Assembly for Monsoon Session
Hyderabad: Twenty-two BRS legislators, including party working president K T Rama Rao (KTR) and former minister T Harish Rao, were suspended from the Telangana Assembly on Wednesday for the remainder of the monsoon session.
The action came after BRS members disrupted proceedings, raised slogans and entered the well of the House while demanding that their concerns be taken up for discussion.
Soon after the Assembly met, BRS MLAs began raising slogans such as “We want justice.” KTR also submitted an adjournment motion seeking a debate on alleged police high-handedness against BRS women legislators two days earlier, when party MLAs were stopped at the Assembly gate.
The BRS also sought discussion over alleged remarks by some ruling Congress members concerning the health and life of BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).
Speaker Appeals for Calm
Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar repeatedly asked the protesting legislators to return to their seats. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu also appealed to the BRS members to allow the House to function.
The Speaker said he would examine whether the BRS legislators had formally submitted their demands in writing.
Vikramarka, meanwhile, clarified that he and other Congress leaders had wished KCR a healthy and long life, along with a long career in public service. He urged the BRS legislators to raise their concerns from their seats rather than entering the well or behaving aggressively.
Congress-BRS Tensions Escalate
The Deputy Chief Minister also referred to reports that BRS leaders had carried out a “purification” ritual by sprinkling turmeric water near KCR’s farmhouse at Erravelli.
The reported incident followed a September 8 protest by Congress workers and Dalit activists near the farmhouse over alleged abusive remarks made by BRS MLC Tata Madhusudhan against Speaker Prasad Kumar.
Vikramarka questioned how long the BRS would continue what he described as humiliation of the Dalit community and said the issue had become a matter of self-respect for the Assembly and society.

The suspension was announced after Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu moved a motion seeking action against the protesting legislators.
