1 Killed, 4 Injured in Oxygen Cylinder Blast at Delhi’s Okhla Godown
New Delhi: A routine morning at a commercial godown in Delhi’s Okhla Phase 1 turned deadly on Wednesday when an oxygen cylinder exploded, killing one worker and leaving four others injured.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Mohit Singh, who worked as a helper for a company operating from the area, police said.
The incident was reported at around 10:45 am, when a PCR call alerted authorities about the explosion. Three fire tenders and a multi-casualty response vehicle were immediately sent to the location.
Mohit died at the spot. He was reportedly a resident of Jaipur and had been working with the company for around three years.
Four other workers — Umesh, Arvind, Manoj and Pankaj — suffered injuries and were taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment.
According to preliminary information, the workers were employed by a firm involved in the trading and local distribution of industrial oxygen cylinders used for medical purposes and gas-cutting work.
Cylinder Reportedly Fell During Unloading
Police said a vehicle carrying the cylinders had arrived at the premises on Wednesday morning. The workers were unloading the cylinders and shifting them into the godown when one of the cylinders reportedly fell from the vehicle onto the road.
The cylinder exploded shortly afterwards, according to preliminary information cited by PTI.
The blast left one worker dead and several others injured, prompting an immediate emergency response in the industrial area.
Forensic Probe Underway
The exact cause of the explosion has not yet been established.
Police said the cylinder, the vehicle involved and other material at the site will be examined by technical and forensic experts. Their investigation is expected to determine what caused the cylinder to explode and whether any safety protocols were breached.
For now, authorities are working to establish the precise sequence of events behind the blast, while the injured workers continue to receive medical treatment.
