Will Kill Sugar Daddy Soon’: Assam Man Accused Of Killing Wife, Keeping Head In Fridge
Guwahati: An Assam man accused of killing his wife and hiding her severed head inside a refrigerator made a disturbing statement while being taken to court, claiming that he would target a person he called a “sugar daddy” after completing his jail term.
Ramanuj Goswami was produced before a Guwahati court on Tuesday, a day after he was sent to seven days of police custody in connection with the death of his 25-year-old wife, Riya Talukdar.
Speaking to reporters in Assamese, Goswami allegedly admitted to killing his wife and said he intended to kill the unidentified person he referred to as the “sugar daddy” once he was released from prison.
When journalists repeatedly asked him to identify the person, Goswami reportedly became agitated and reacted angrily.
“I have no regrets, no apologies,” he told reporters.
Neighbours Alert Police After Foul Smell
The horrifying case came to light on September 6, after neighbours contacted police over a foul smell coming from the couple’s apartment in Guwahati.
Residents also told investigators that they had not seen the newly married couple for around two days and that both their mobile phones appeared to be switched off.
Police subsequently broke open the apartment and discovered Talukdar’s body inside.
Woman’s Head Found Inside Refrigerator
Investigators suspect Goswami attacked Talukdar with a sharp weapon following an altercation. Police found that some of the victim’s fingers had been partially severed and that her body had already begun decomposing.
Her head was initially missing from the scene.
A subsequent search of the apartment led police to a refrigerator, where they allegedly recovered Talukdar’s severed head wrapped in a polythene bag.
The victim’s body and the severed head were sent for post-mortem examination.
Talukdar had married Goswami only a few months earlier, according to the information available to investigators.
Accused Surrendered After Nearly Two Days
Following the discovery, police launched a search for Goswami, who was not present at the apartment. Neighbours reportedly told investigators that they had last seen him on Friday.
After remaining away from the residence for nearly two days, Goswami surrendered before police late on Sunday night.
A court subsequently remanded him to seven days of police custody.
Investigators are now questioning him to establish the motive behind the killing, reconstruct the sequence of events and determine the circumstances surrounding his reference to the unidentified person as a “sugar daddy”.
The investigation is ongoing.
