Midnight Bomb Threat at Mumbai’s Taj Hotel Sparks Security Alert; Extensive Search Finds No Explosives

Mumbai: A late-night bomb threat claiming that “Dawood has planted a bomb at the Taj Hotel” triggered a major security response at Mumbai’s iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in the early hours of Sunday.

The alert was received around 12:13 am after the Navi Mumbai Police Control Room received the threatening call. The information was immediately shared with the Mumbai Police, following which multiple security teams were deployed to the heritage hotel.

Personnel from the Mumbai Police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) carried out a detailed search of the premises as a precautionary measure. Teams inspected several sensitive areas, including the hotel lobby, restaurants, banquet halls, parking zones, swimming pool area and other locations.

After a thorough security sweep, officials confirmed that no suspicious object or explosive material was found. No injuries or damage were reported, and normal activities at the hotel continued after the clearance.

Police have started an investigation to identify the caller and determine whether the threat was a hoax or linked to any larger plan. Investigators are analysing call records and technical details, with initial findings suggesting that the call may have originated from the Turbhe area of Navi Mumbai.

The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, located near the Gateway of India, is among Mumbai’s most high-security landmarks. The hotel’s history, including its connection with the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, makes any security threat a matter of immediate concern for authorities.

Officials said the situation was handled according to standard security procedures, and the hotel was declared safe after the search operation.
