MBA Graduate Found Hiding Inside Box Bed, Arrested in Bengaluru Fake Currency Case

Bengaluru : A 41-year-old MBA graduate has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly printing and circulating counterfeit ₹500 notes, ending a dramatic police search that led officers to find him hiding inside a box bed at his home.

The accused, identified as Rudresh, was arrested from his residence in Sampige Layout, Gangondanahalli, after police traced him during an investigation into the circulation of fake currency in Karnataka.

According to investigators, the case surfaced after Rudresh allegedly used a counterfeit ₹500 note to buy cigarettes at a shop in Huliyaru village on July 2. The suspicious note alerted local authorities, who began tracking its source.

When a team from Huliyaru Police arrived at Rudresh’s house, they were reportedly met with resistance from his parents. Officers searched the house but initially failed to locate him. It was only after conducting a detailed inspection that they discovered Rudresh concealed inside a storage compartment beneath a box bed, where his parents had allegedly hidden him from the police.

Investigators believe Rudresh was involved in circulating fake currency not only in Bengaluru but also in Tumakuru and nearby areas. Police suspect he resumed the illegal operation after being released from prison.

This is not the first time Rudresh has come under the police scanner. In 2024, he was allegedly linked to a counterfeit currency racket busted by Davanagere Police. Authorities had then claimed the gang printed and circulated nearly ₹20 lakh worth of fake notes within just three months before six members were arrested.

Police say another suspect connected to the case remains absconding, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the individual.

A case has been registered by Huliyaru Police, and further investigation is in progress. Officers are questioning Rudresh to determine the full extent of the counterfeit currency network, identify other people involved, and uncover how the fake notes were printed and distributed.

The case highlights the continued challenge posed by counterfeit currency networks and the efforts of law enforcement agencies to track down those involved in producing and circulating fake notes.
