CCTV Footage Raises Fresh Questions in Jaipur Schoolgirl Amaira’s Death; Family Seeks Strict Action

New Delhi : New CCTV footage has brought renewed attention to the tragic death of nine-year-old Amaira, a Class 4 student at Jaipur’s Neerja Modi School, who died after falling from the fourth floor of the school building in November last year. The visuals have intensified concerns over whether repeated pleas for help from the child were ignored in the moments leading up to the incident.

According to the footage, Amaira began her school day like any other. She entered her classroom calmly, greeted a friend, and actively participated in a dance class alongside her classmates. However, events reportedly took a troubling turn after the children returned to the classroom.

The CCTV footage allegedly shows a group of students repeatedly displaying a digital slate to Amaira. Soon after, her behaviour changed noticeably. She appeared visibly uncomfortable, withdrawn, and unable to focus on her classwork.

Over the next hour, Amaira was seen approaching her class teacher several times, seemingly trying to explain what had upset her. However, according to her family’s account, each time another student interrupted the conversation, shifting the teacher’s attention away from Amaira. Instead of speaking to her privately or addressing her concerns, she was reportedly asked to return to her seat.

The footage also captures Amaira becoming increasingly distressed. At different moments, she is seen folding her hands while speaking to the teacher, covering her mouth, and later holding her head—gestures that her family believes reflected fear, embarrassment, and helplessness. They allege that the teacher’s response appeared stern and that the child was unable to make herself heard.

Shortly afterwards, Amaira left the classroom alone. CCTV footage reportedly shows her walking through the school corridors and climbing the staircase to the fourth floor without any staff member stopping or following her.

Moments later, the nine-year-old fell nearly 48 feet from the fourth-floor railing. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Following the release of the footage, Amaira’s family has accused the police of failing to take adequate action. They have demanded that stricter provisions of the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act be invoked not only against the class teacher but also against the school’s principal and chairman.

The case had earlier prompted the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to issue a show-cause notice to Neerja Modi School after a two-member committee inspected the campus. The committee pointed to serious lapses in student safety and supervision, noting that Amaira, whose classroom was located on the ground floor, was able to reach the fourth floor unnoticed.

The CBSE’s investigation also revealed that Amaira had allegedly been subjected to bullying by classmates for nearly 18 months. The report stated that both the child and her parents had repeatedly raised concerns with the class teacher, but their complaints were allegedly dismissed.

According to the committee, Amaira’s father had approached the teacher in September after his daughter was bullied by one of her classmates. The report claims the teacher responded by saying that the child “needs to adjust with other kids.”

Despite these allegations, the committee described Amaira as a bright, cheerful, friendly student and an all-round performer who was well-liked by teachers and classmates.

The fresh CCTV footage has reignited calls for accountability and raised difficult questions about whether timely intervention by school authorities could have prevented the tragedy. The investigation into the case remains under scrutiny as Amaira’s family continues to seek justice
