Assam Government Bans Beef Consumption in Public Spaces, Restaurants, and Hotels

In a significant move, the BJP-led Assam government has banned the consumption and serving of beef in hotels, restaurants, and public places across the state. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the decision following a state cabinet meeting that approved amendments to existing laws on beef consumption.
Addressing the press, CM Sarma explained that the state had already taken a firm stand against cow slaughter through legislation enacted three years ago. The new provisions now extend the ban on beef consumption from a five-kilometer radius around temples to all public spaces statewide.
“This decision aligns with our commitment to upholding cultural and religious sentiments while ensuring uniform enforcement across the state,” Sarma stated.
The move reflects the BJP’s broader stance against beef consumption and aims to strengthen existing measures for cow protection. The new law has sparked discussions across Assam, with varied reactions from the public and stakeholders.
