Wildlife Smuggling Busted: Leopard Skin Trophy Seized in Hotel Raid, Three Arrested

Authorities uncovered a disturbing case of illegal wildlife trafficking after raiding a hotel room in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal, where a leopard skin trophy was being smuggled. The operation was carried out by India’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) following a tip-off.
Officials recovered the leopard skin with the animal’s head still attached, exposing the brutal reality of wildlife poaching. Three people linked to the smuggling network were arrested during the raid.
The seizure is part of a larger crackdown on illegal wildlife trade in Madhya Pradesh. Earlier this year, officials also recovered leopard skins, ivory items, and dismantled a gang accused of killing a tiger cub for body parts.
Leopards are listed as a vulnerable species, and poaching remains one of the biggest threats to their survival. Wildlife experts warn that illegal animal trafficking not only harms endangered species but also fuels global criminal networks.
Authorities and conservation groups continue urging people not to buy products made from animal skins, ivory, shells, or other wildlife parts, stressing that public awareness and responsible choices can help reduce illegal trade.
