Vijay Floor Test Today: DMK to Abstain, AIADMK to Vote Against TVK Government

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay is set to face a crucial trust vote in the Assembly today as political parties take clear positions ahead of the floor test.

The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) needs to prove its majority after forming the state’s first coalition government. Vijay’s party emerged as the single largest force in last month’s election, winning 108 seats. However, the number later dropped to 107 after he vacated one of the two constituencies he had won.

The majority mark in the 234-member Assembly stands at 118, leaving TVK short by 10 seats. To bridge the gap, the party has received support from Indian National Congress, Left parties, and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi.

Meanwhile, the opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has announced it will abstain from the trust vote. Party leader Udhayanidhi Stalin said the party will not participate in the voting process.

On the other hand, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has confirmed it will vote against the TVK-led government. Senior leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami said all party MLAs will oppose Vijay’s government during the floor test.

With DMK staying away, the effective strength of the House will reduce significantly, making it easier for TVK to cross the revised majority mark.

All eyes are now on the Assembly as Vijay prepares for one of the biggest political tests of his new career.
