Trump Says Iran Requested Doha Meeting, Tehran Denies Direct Talks With US

Doha, US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran requested a meeting with the United States and that talks are scheduled to take place in Doha on Tuesday. However, Tehran has denied that any direct negotiations with Washington have been planned.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Iran has requested a meeting. It will take place tomorrow in Doha,” but did not provide further details about the agenda, participants or the purpose of the proposed discussions.
The statement comes as diplomatic efforts continue amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with Qatar once again emerging as a key venue for indirect engagement between Washington and Tehran.
Shortly after Trump’s remarks, Iran rejected reports that its officials would hold direct talks with the United States in Doha this week.
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said there are currently no plans for technical-level negotiations with US officials in Qatar.
According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, Gharibabadi said consultations with Qatar are continuing, including discussions related to the implementation of commitments by the other side. However, he added that media reports suggesting technical working group talks would take place in Doha could not be confirmed.
He further stated that any technical discussions would only be held after both sides reach an agreement on the date, venue and necessary conditions, with consultations continuing through intermediary countries.
The conflicting statements come after several media outlets, including Al Jazeera, reported that US-Iran technical talks were expected to take place in Doha on Tuesday.
The differing accounts from Washington and Tehran underscore the uncertainty surrounding the current state of diplomatic engagement between the two countries, even as regional tensions and negotiations over broader security issues continue.
