‘She Fell From Roof’: BSF Jawan Accused of Killing Wife in Punjab, Allegedly Tried to Pass It Off as Roof Fall
Punjab: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan has been arrested in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district after allegedly assaulting and killing his wife while on leave and then attempting to make her death appear to be an accidental fall from the roof.
The victim has been identified as Rama, who had been married to Amarjit Singh for around 12 years. The couple had two children, a son and a daughter.
Family Raises Questions Over Death
According to a complaint filed by Rama’s family, Amarjit returned home on leave on the night of August 13. He allegedly assaulted his wife at their residence, following which she suffered serious injuries and later died.
Around 4 am on August 14, Rama’s family was reportedly informed that she had fallen from the roof and had been taken to hospital.
When her relatives reached the hospital, however, they found that Rama had already died.
The family told police that they noticed multiple injury marks on her body, raising suspicions that she had been assaulted before her death. They alleged that the claim about a fall from the roof was an attempt to hide what had actually happened.
Rama’s father, Ram Chand, also alleged that his daughter had faced harassment and physical abuse from her husband since their marriage.
Three Booked, One Arrested
Police have registered a case against Amarjit Singh, his uncle Kuldeep Kuki and aunt Sonia in connection with the case.
Amarjit has been arrested, while the other two accused are reportedly absconding.
Station House Officer Harprem Singh said that further investigation is underway. Police are also examining the circumstances surrounding Rama’s death and the allegations made by her family.
Following the post-mortem examination, Rama’s body was handed over to her family. Her last rites will be performed in her native village.
