Prashant Kishor Declares ₹96 Crore Assets, Wife’s Wealth Crosses ₹102 Crore Ahead of Bihar Bankipur Bypoll

Patna: Jan Suraaj founder and political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor has declared assets worth nearly ₹96 crore in the election affidavit filed with his nomination for the Bankipur Assembly bypoll in Bihar.
According to the affidavit submitted to the Returning Officer, Kishor owns movable assets valued at ₹22.19 crore and immovable properties worth ₹73.87 crore. His wife, Dr. Jahnavi Das, a medical practitioner from Assam, has declared assets exceeding ₹102 crore, including ₹89.51 crore in movable assets and ₹12.42 crore in immovable property.
The Bankipur seat fell vacant after BJP leader Nitin Nabin resigned a few months ago. Kishor is contesting the bypoll against BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha after the party replaced its earlier nominee.
Speaking after filing his nomination, Kishor described the election as more than just a political contest. He said it was a movement for change in Bihar and called for leaders with criminal backgrounds to step away from public office.
Before submitting his nomination papers, Kishor offered prayers at Baba Hariharnath Temple in Sonepur. He later led a roadshow with supporters from the Scout Guide Ground near Sinha Library to the collectorate in Patna.
The 49-year-old entered active politics after announcing his retirement from election consultancy in 2021. He launched the Jan Suraaj Abhiyan in October 2022 and undertook a statewide padyatra, promising to focus on Bihar’s political transformation. Although Jan Suraaj contested the Bihar elections earlier this year, the party failed to win any seats. The Bankipur bypoll marks Kishor’s first election as a candidate.
His election affidavit also reveals an outstanding bank loan of ₹5.77 crore. The documents list multiple properties owned by the family, including flats in Ghaziabad and Noida, a bungalow in Guwahati, plots in Patna’s Pataliputra Colony and Delhi’s Vasant Vihar, along with ancestral property in Buxar.
Kishor is also the owner of Vedha Venture Private Limited, a company that donated ₹85 crore to the Jan Suraaj party during the 2024–25 financial year. Earlier, it had contributed funds to the Jan Suraaj Foundation and the Joy of Giving initiative.
The affidavit mentions eight criminal cases registered against Kishor, including allegations related to defamation, fraud and obstruction of official duty. However, no charges have been framed in any of these cases so far.
On the educational front, Kishor holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from the University of Lucknow and a Master’s in Healthcare Management from the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad. He has also completed a certification course in the French language.
