PM Modi Joins Australian PM Anthony Albanese in Melbourne, Calls India-Australia Partnership a Symbol of Shared Confidence

Melbourne : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday joined his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese at the India–Australia CEO Forum and Economic Roadmap Business Reception in Melbourne, where the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic and strategic ties between the two countries.
The high-level event brought together top business leaders, investors, and policymakers from India and Australia to explore new opportunities for trade, investment, technology, and innovation.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi described the India-Australia partnership as a “symbol of our shared confidence”, saying the relationship has grown stronger over the years because of mutual trust, democratic values, and a shared vision for prosperity.
He highlighted India’s rapid economic growth and invited Australian businesses to expand their investments in the country. Modi said India offers enormous opportunities across sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, renewable energy, digital technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical minerals, defence, and clean energy.
The Prime Minister also praised the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA), saying it has significantly boosted trade and economic cooperation between the two nations. He expressed confidence that negotiations on the proposed Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) would further strengthen bilateral trade and create new business opportunities.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese echoed similar sentiments, describing India as one of Australia’s most important strategic and economic partners. He said the two nations are working closely to build resilient supply chains, promote innovation, accelerate the clean energy transition, and deepen cooperation in emerging technologies.
A major highlight of the event was the announcement by AustralianSuper, Australia’s largest pension fund, which committed an additional AUD 500 million investment in India’s National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF). The investment is expected to support infrastructure projects and strengthen long-term economic collaboration between the two countries.
The two leaders also discussed expanding cooperation in areas such as critical minerals, green hydrogen, maritime security, defence manufacturing, digital innovation, and advanced technologies. Modi said India and Australia are “natural and trusted partners” capable of working together to address global economic challenges and build more resilient supply chains.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Melbourne is part of his ongoing three-nation tour, which includes Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand. Alongside official engagements, he is also expected to interact with members of the Indian diaspora, further reinforcing the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries.
