PM Modi Cuts Convoy Size, Pushes EVs And Fuel Saving Measures Amid Global Energy Crisis

As rising tensions linked to the Iran conflict continue to impact global energy markets, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun implementing fuel-saving measures within the government, including reducing the size of his official convoy and encouraging the use of electric vehicles wherever possible.

According to reports, the Prime Minister’s convoy was shortened during recent visits to Gujarat and Assam while still maintaining essential security arrangements under SPG protocols. Sources also said that EVs are being included in the convoy without making additional vehicle purchases.

The move comes shortly after PM Modi appealed to citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption in response to the growing global energy crisis triggered by the Iran conflict and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz — a key route for global oil transportation.

During a public address in Hyderabad, Modi urged people to rely more on public transport, metro services, electric buses and carpooling. He also encouraged both government and private offices to increase virtual meetings and adopt work-from-home practices wherever possible to reduce fuel usage.

The Prime Minister further appealed to citizens to postpone unnecessary gold purchases for the time being, saying the country should focus on conserving foreign exchange reserves during the uncertain global economic situation.

Following the Prime Minister’s remarks, several BJP-ruled states also announced similar austerity steps. Bhajan Lal Sharma reduced his convoy size from 15 vehicles to 5, while Mohan Yadav cut his convoy from 13 vehicles to 8 and halted vehicle rallies during official tours.

PM Modi also renewed his “Vocal for Local” message, urging citizens to support Indian-made products and strengthen domestic businesses during the ongoing global uncertainty
