NDTV Reports Another Quarterly Loss As Rising Costs Put Pressure On Business

New Delhi Television Ltd. (NDTV) reported its fourth consecutive quarterly loss as rising operational and production expenses continued to impact the broadcaster’s financial performance.
The company posted a loss of ₹527.7 million for the July-September quarter, compared to a profit of ₹59.1 million during the same period last year. NDTV said its expenses increased sharply as it continued investing in newly launched television channels, infrastructure expansion, and content development.
According to the company, total expenses surged by nearly 76%, mainly driven by higher operating costs along with increased spending on production and marketing activities.
Despite the losses, NDTV reported growth in revenue from operations, which rose 16.5% to ₹1.11 billion during the quarter. The broadcaster credited the rise to stronger content strategies, expansion of its intellectual property portfolio, and growing digital initiatives.
The company, which is majority-owned by Adani Group, operates multiple news channels and digital platforms in India.
Industry experts say media companies dependent on advertising revenue are currently facing pressure due to weak consumer demand and cautious spending by major advertisers. Consumer goods companies, which are among the largest television advertisers, have reportedly reduced advertising budgets amid rising living costs and slower market demand.
Several other media firms have also reported similar challenges in recent weeks. Broadcasters like Zee Entertainment Enterprises and Network18 Media & Investments have highlighted weakness in advertising revenues, especially in the television news segment.
NDTV did not provide a detailed breakdown of its advertising income for the quarter. Following the earnings announcement, the company’s shares ended the trading session slightly lower.
Other media companies, including TV Today Network and Zee Media Corporation, are expected to announce their quarterly results later this month.
