Meet S Keerthana: Vijay’s Youngest MLA Who Rose From Political Strategist To Cabinet Minister

At just 29 years old, S Keerthana has become one of the youngest and most talked-about faces in Tamil Nadu politics. Representing Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the party led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, Keerthana won the Sivakasi Assembly seat and is now part of the party’s emerging new-generation leadership.
Born in Virudhunagar in 1996, Keerthana comes from a humble educational background and studied in a Tamil-medium government school. Despite limited resources, she built an impressive academic and professional journey, completing her BSc in Mathematics through a college affiliated with Madurai Kamaraj University before earning an MSc in Statistics from Pondicherry University in 2019.
Before stepping into active politics, Keerthana worked behind the scenes as a political consultant and digital campaign strategist. She was associated with firms like Showtime Consulting and IPAC, where she contributed to major election campaigns across different states.
Over the years, she worked with several prominent political leaders, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. According to Keerthana, these experiences helped her understand governance, bureaucracy and grassroots politics from close quarters.
One of her biggest strengths is her ability to speak five languages fluently, including Tamil, English, Hindi and Telugu. She believes language opened doors for her to work in multiple states and connect with people from different backgrounds.
Speaking about her political journey, Keerthana said she always saw herself entering public life one day, which is why she first chose the path of political strategy and campaign management.
In the 2026 Sivakasi Assembly election, she secured 68,709 votes and defeated Congress candidate Ashokan G by over 11,000 votes. Her victory was historic, as she became the first woman MLA from Sivakasi in nearly 70 years to defeat a former AIADMK minister.
Keerthana also credited TVK for giving opportunities to people without political influence or financial backing. She said the party welcomed individuals who genuinely wanted to work for the public, regardless of their background.
