Shehzad Poonawalla Resigns From BJP, Cites Pressing Personal and Financial Reasons
New Delhi: BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has once again submitted his resignation from the party, asking the leadership to relieve him of his organisational responsibilities and primary membership. He cited pressing personal and financial circumstances behind his decision and said he now plans to move into the private sector.
Poonawalla had first submitted his resignation on July 30, but the BJP did not accept it at the time and instead asked him to reconsider. After giving the decision considerable thought, he has now made it clear that he wants to step away from the party and has requested BJP president Nitin Nabin to formally accept his resignation.

A lawyer by profession, Poonawalla began his political journey with the Congress and rose to prominence after publicly challenging the party’s internal leadership process. He later joined the BJP and became one of the party’s most recognisable spokespersons, frequently appearing in television debates and representing the party on major political issues.
His departure marks a significant change for the BJP, particularly as Poonawalla had emerged as one of its prominent public faces and minority voices.
