Iran Weighs US Peace Proposal as Trump Predicts Conflict Could End Soon

US President Donald Trump has said the ongoing conflict involving Iran could be “over quickly,” expressing confidence that diplomatic talks may soon lead to a breakthrough. His remarks came as Iran confirmed it is reviewing a proposal from the United States aimed at ending hostilities and restarting nuclear negotiations.
According to reports, the White House is working on a 14-point memorandum of understanding with Iran. The proposed framework could pave the way for more detailed talks on Tehran’s nuclear programme and regional security issues. Among the reported points are a temporary suspension of Iran’s nuclear enrichment activities, easing of sanctions, and reopening safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
However, reactions inside Iran remain mixed. Some Iranian officials reportedly dismissed the proposal as unrealistic, while the foreign ministry said Tehran would communicate its response through Pakistani mediators.
Pakistan’s foreign minister stated that his country is trying to help turn the current ceasefire into a lasting peace agreement.
Speaking during a virtual campaign event, Trump said recent discussions with Iran had been positive and suggested a deal was possible. He repeated that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons remains a key US objective.
At the same time, Trump also warned that military action could resume if negotiations fail. He said bombing could restart at a higher intensity if Iran rejects the terms.
The tension has also affected global energy markets. Iran has effectively restricted movement through the Strait of Hormuz since fighting began earlier this year. The waterway is one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, carrying around 20% of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there is “full coordination” with the US regarding Iran, stressing that dismantling Iran’s enrichment capabilities remains a shared goal.
Although a ceasefire was announced earlier, clashes involving Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israeli forces have continued, adding pressure to an already fragile regional situation.
With diplomatic talks underway and military threats still looming, the coming days may determine whether the region moves toward peace or renewed conflict
