Delhi Doctor Arrested for Killing Longtime House Help in Shocking South Delhi Crime

Delhi , June 19 : A shocking and heartbreaking incident has come to light from New Delhi, where a well-known dermatologist has been arrested for allegedly murdering his domestic help, a woman who had served his family loyally for over 15 years.

The accused, Dr Manish Gupta, was taken into custody from his residence in Greater Kailash after police discovered the body of his house help, Meena, on the terrace of the family’s bungalow.

According to police, the 45-year-old victim was found lying in a pool of blood after a resident from a nearby tower spotted her from a balcony and immediately alerted authorities. When police arrived, they found Dr Gupta sitting quietly on the staircase inside the house. In a disturbing statement, he reportedly told officers, “Mujhe faansi dedo” (Hang me).

Investigators recovered a blood-stained kitchen knife and a bat from the crime scene, both believed to have been used in the murder.

Police say the incident may have been triggered by an ongoing argument between Dr Gupta and his wife over Meena’s employment. While Gupta reportedly wanted to dismiss her, his wife insisted she continue, as Meena had become an important part of the household over the years.

Authorities revealed that Dr Gupta had been battling severe mental health issues for nearly a decade, including depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Officers suspect his mental condition may have played a major role in the violent attack.

A senior police official said Gupta had been struggling with disturbing thoughts and emotional instability. There are also concerns that he may have stopped taking his medication, which investigators are now looking into.

On the day of the incident, Meena arrived at the house around 10:30 in the morning for her regular work. After finishing washing clothes, she went to the terrace to hang them out to dry. It was there, police say, that Gupta allegedly attacked her.

He reportedly struck her multiple times on the face and head with his son’s cricket bat before slitting her throat with a kitchen knife. Investigators noted that the wound appeared unusually precise, resembling a medical incision.

At the time of the attack, Gupta’s 19-year-old son was inside the house. Police say Gupta later came downstairs and confessed to him that he had attacked Meena. His wife was not home during the incident.

The tragedy has left Meena’s family shattered. She is survived by her husband, who lives in their native village in West Bengal, and her son Robin, who works in Delhi. Robin said his mother had never complained about her employers and had always spoken respectfully of the family.

Her relatives gathered outside the house in grief and anger, demanding answers and justice. Some even tried to stop police vehicles from taking Gupta away before officers managed to calm the situation.

Meena’s sister described her as the kindest and most soft-spoken person in their family. She said the family would not rest until they understood why such a brutal act was committed against someone who had spent years caring for the household.

The case has once again raised difficult questions about mental health, untreated psychological struggles, and the safety of domestic workers who often become invisible pillars of the families they serve.

Police have registered a murder case and are continuing their investigation, including whether negligence in mental health treatment may have contributed to this tragic loss.
