“Are We Really United?” Uddhav Thackeray’s Emotional Question Raises Fresh Doubts Over MVA’s Future

Mumbai , June 25 : The political future of Maharashtra’s Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is once again under serious scrutiny after a key strategy meeting exposed visible cracks within the opposition alliance. Out of the alliance’s 60 MLAs, 23 remained absent from an important meeting held ahead of the monsoon session, triggering fresh speculation about the bloc’s unity and long-term survival.
The absence of several senior leaders made the situation even more concerning. Among those missing were Sharad Pawar and senior NCP leader Jayant Patil, who were reportedly unavailable for personal reasons. Congress leaders Nana Patole and Vijay Wadettiwar were also absent, adding to the uncertainty.
The timing of this meeting could not have been worse for Uddhav Thackeray. Just days earlier, his Shiv Sena faction suffered another setback when six Members of Parliament rebelled and joined the rival Sena group led by Eknath Shinde. This fresh rebellion has intensified concerns over Thackeray’s shrinking influence and the growing strength of Shinde’s camp.
Speaking during the meeting, Uddhav Thackeray did not hide his disappointment. In an emotional moment, he openly questioned the commitment of his alliance partners, asking, “We say we are together… but are we truly together?” The remark was seen as a direct reflection of his frustration and the political pressure he is currently facing.
His statement carried more than just emotion—it raised a serious political question about whether the MVA still has the unity and trust needed to function as a strong opposition. Thackeray reminded leaders that while defections are painful, the focus must now remain on strengthening those who continue to stand with the alliance.
He urged all alliance members to come together, organise joint meetings, hold rallies, and present a united front both inside the Assembly and in public. According to Thackeray, showing solidarity is now more important than ever as Maharashtra enters a crucial political phase.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi was formed in 2019 under extraordinary political circumstances. After the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Shiv Sena broke its long-standing alliance with the BJP due to disagreements over sharing the Chief Minister’s post. This led to an unexpected alliance between Shiv Sena, Congress, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)—three parties with very different political ideologies.
From the beginning, critics questioned how long such an alliance could survive. While the coalition managed to govern for years, internal tensions and ideological differences remained.
In 2022, the alliance suffered its biggest blow when Eknath Shinde led a massive rebellion within Shiv Sena, eventually toppling Uddhav Thackeray’s government. That political split changed Maharashtra’s power structure and significantly weakened Thackeray’s hold over the party.
The following year, in 2023, the NCP also faced a split, creating further instability within the opposition. These repeated rebellions have left the MVA constantly fighting for survival rather than focusing solely on governance or opposition politics.
Now, with six more MPs crossing over and a poor turnout at a critical strategy meeting, many political observers believe the MVA may be facing its most difficult challenge yet.
While there are no immediate reports of another major rebellion, the pattern of defections and absences has raised concerns about whether the alliance is losing momentum and internal trust. For the opposition, this could become a turning point.
For Uddhav Thackeray, the battle ahead is not only about numbers or political power—it is about rebuilding confidence, restoring loyalty, and proving that the alliance can still stand united despite repeated setbacks.
As Maharashtra’s political landscape continues to shift, all eyes are now on the MVA and whether it can hold itself together—or whether these latest cracks could signal the beginning of its collapse.
