95-Year-Old Mother of IPS Officer Found Dead at Home in UP, Jewellery Missing

Lucknow: A 95-year-old woman, identified as Indravati, was found dead inside her home in Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkarnagar district, in an incident that is being investigated as a suspected murder and robbery.

Indravati lived alone in Rudha Dhamrua village and was the mother of Ashutosh Mishra, a 2016-batch IPS officer who is currently posted in Lucknow. Her body was discovered on a cot inside the house by her domestic help at around 9 am on Sunday.

After receiving the information, Ashutosh Mishra travelled to the village and reached his mother’s home around 3 pm. He subsequently filed a complaint alleging murder and robbery against unidentified persons.

According to the preliminary information, several pieces of jewellery that Indravati was wearing were missing. These reportedly included a gold chain, nose pin, earrings and anklets. The family suspects that thieves may have entered the house during Saturday night, killed her and then taken away the jewellery.

However, police officials have said that the circumstances surrounding her death are still being investigated and that the exact cause of death will be established through the post-mortem examination.

The police said they initially received information that Indravati had died following a suspected heart attack. Later, Ashutosh Mishra informed the authorities that he believed his mother had been murdered after noticing that the jewellery she had been wearing was missing.

A forensic team and senior police officials inspected the house and examined the scene. According to the police, there were no visible injury marks or obvious signs of a physical struggle on the body.

The body was subsequently sent for a post-mortem examination. A panel of three doctors conducted the examination, which was also videographed as part of the investigation.

The case has attracted political attention as well. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticised the law-and-order situation in Uttar Pradesh following the incident. He pointed out that the victim was the mother of an IPS officer and questioned the security situation in the state.

For investigators, the missing jewellery and the circumstances in which the elderly woman was found dead are key aspects of the case. Police are expected to examine the house, gather forensic evidence and investigate people who may have had access to the area.

At this stage, the exact circumstances leading to Indravati’s death remain unclear. Police are awaiting the post-mortem findings and further investigation to determine whether the death was the result of a planned attack, robbery or another cause.

The incident has left the victim’s family shocked and raised fresh concerns about the safety of elderly people living alone, particularly in rural areas. The investigation is underway, and authorities will have to establish both the cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the missing jewellery.
