UP Woman Accused of Faking IAS Identity to Marry Man, Husband Alleges ₹40 Lakh Extortion Bid

Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh: A woman has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district for allegedly pretending to be an IAS officer on social media to gain a man’s trust and marry him. Her husband later accused her of demanding ₹40 lakh and threatening him after the marriage.

The woman, identified as Sadhana, was arrested following a complaint filed by her husband Abhishek, who alleged that she and her family misled him by presenting a false identity before the wedding.

According to police, Sadhana allegedly created fake photographs and videos on Facebook showing herself as an IAS officer. These posts reportedly convinced Abhishek and his family that she was a government officer, following which the marriage took place.

However, Abhishek claimed that he discovered the truth after the wedding and approached the police. In his complaint, he alleged that Sadhana’s behaviour changed after marriage and that she threatened him and his family while demanding ₹40 lakh.

He further alleged that she assaulted him during a domestic dispute and pressured him to sell his agricultural land to arrange money for building a hospital on a plot owned by her in Budaun.

Police said that during questioning, Sadhana allegedly admitted to creating fake social media content to portray herself as an IAS officer. Officials also claimed that she confessed to demanding money from her husband.

Superintendent of Police (South) Anshika Verma said that Sadhana was arrested after a search operation. Police are continuing their investigation to verify all allegations and examine the involvement of other people named in the case.

An FIR has been registered against Sadhana, her father Narendra Pal Singh, brother Surya Pratap and maternal uncle Rajendra Singh at Faridpur police station. The case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act.

Police said Sadhana is a BSc graduate and was preparing for government job examinations. Her father is reportedly a farmer.

The investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud and whether others were involved in the incident.
