Political Storm Over Ujjain Land Deal: BJP Rejects Congress’ Allegations Against CM Mohan Yadav

Madhya Pradesh June , 24 2026 :A fresh political controversy has erupted in Madhya Pradesh after the Congress accused Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and his family of being involved in an alleged land scam in Ujjain. The BJP has strongly denied the charges, calling them “baseless” and politically motivated.
The issue has quickly turned into a major war of words between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, with both sides accusing each other of misleading the public.
The controversy began after a report claimed that Mohan Yadav and his family purchased large parcels of land in Ujjain after he became Chief Minister. Following this, Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari demanded a judicial probe into the matter by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.
Congress has described the alleged case as the “plunder of Mahakal’s land,” referring to the sacred city of Ujjain, home to the famous Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple. The party has also demanded Mohan Yadav’s resignation, saying the matter raises serious ethical and legal concerns.
Responding to the allegations, Madhya Pradesh BJP president Hemant Khandelwal came out strongly in defense of the Chief Minister. He said the accusations were completely false and accused Congress of targeting leaders from backward communities.
Khandelwal claimed that whenever Madhya Pradesh gets a Chief Minister from the Other Backward Classes (OBC), Congress tries to weaken him politically. According to him, the opposition is using the land issue as a tool to attack Mohan Yadav’s image rather than focusing on real public issues.
The BJP says all land transactions linked to the Chief Minister’s family are legal and transparent. Party leaders have insisted there is no scam and accused Congress of trying to create controversy ahead of important political developments.
On the other hand, Congress maintains that the timing and scale of the land purchases raise serious questions. The opposition argues that if everything is clean, the government should welcome an independent judicial investigation to clear the matter.
The case has become politically sensitive because Ujjain is not just a city but an important religious and cultural center in Madhya Pradesh. Any controversy involving land in the Mahakal region often attracts public attention and emotional reactions.
Political observers say the issue could intensify in the coming days as both parties continue to trade accusations. For Congress, the land issue presents an opportunity to corner the BJP government on corruption. For BJP, defending Mohan Yadav is crucial to protecting its image and maintaining support among OBC voters.
As demands for investigation grow louder, all eyes are now on whether the state government will agree to any independent probe or continue rejecting the allegations as politically motivated.
For now, the matter remains a political battle, but depending on further evidence or legal developments, it could turn into a much bigger controversy in Madhya Pradesh politics.
