24 Indian Sailors Rescued After Missile Strike on Oil Tanker Near Oman

New Delhi: Twenty-four Indian crew members were safely rescued after the oil tanker they were travelling on came under a missile attack off the coast of Oman, thanks to a swift rescue operation coordinated by Indian and Omani authorities.

The Palau-flagged tanker Marivex reported a fire on board following the attack while sailing from Karwar, India, to Duqm, Oman. As soon as the alert was received, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai worked closely with Omani rescue agencies to ensure the safety of everyone on board.

Dramatic visuals released after the incident showed Omani Navy helicopters hovering above the damaged vessel and airlifting crew members to safety. All 24 Indian seafarers were successfully evacuated without any reported casualties.

The Indian Coast Guard praised the rapid coordination between the two countries, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in responding to emergencies at sea. Officials said the rescue operation demonstrated the effectiveness of established maritime safety networks across the region.

Director of Shipping Opesh Kumar Sharma confirmed that all Indian sailors on board were safe. He also noted that the Shipping Ministry and the Directorate General of Shipping have helped facilitate the safe return of more than 3,500 Indian seafarers so far, including 32 rescued in the past four days alone.
