Mumbai: A powerful moment from the ongoing student protests in Mumbai has captured widespread attention after a young woman was seen standing fearlessly in front of a moving police van carrying detained protesters. The woman, identified as Rhiya Yadav, has since become one of the most talked-about faces of the demonstrations, with her act of defiance drawing praise across social media.
The incident took place on Wednesday near Shivaji Park in Dadar, where students and activists had gathered to protest against alleged examination irregularities and demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Videos from the protest show Rhiya, dressed in a hoodie and cap despite heavy rain, refusing to move as the police van approached. Mumbai has witnessed continuous demonstrations in support of the CJP-led student movement in Delhi. For the third consecutive day, students, activists, and members of various political groups gathered at locations including Shivaji Park, Chaityabhoomi, Chembur, and Shiv Sena Bhavan to protest alleged examination irregularities and the police action against demonstrators.
According to officials, Mumbai Police have registered 13 FIRs between July 18 and July 22, charging around 400 people with unlawful assembly and violation of prohibitory orders in connection with the ongoing protests.
