Mumbai Man Allegedly Beats Friend to Death After Dispute Over Clothes: Police

Mumbai: A seemingly minor dispute between two friends over the use of clothes and personal belongings turned fatal in Mumbai’s Goregaon after a 26-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his friend, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Suraj Dole, 26, while the accused is Babasaheb alias Subodh Waghmare, 37, an animal caretaker who reportedly lives on the footpath in Goregaon West.

According to the FIR registered by the Goregaon Police, the incident took place at around 11:30 pm on September 9 near King Studio, opposite Utkarsh Small Finance Bank on S.V. Road.

Argument Over Clothes Turns Violent

According to a complaint filed by Dole’s father, Shankar Dole, the two men were arguing when their friend, Sudhanshu Pandey, intervened and asked them what the dispute was about.

Waghmare allegedly told Pandey that Dole had repeatedly used his clothes and other belongings without his permission. He also claimed that Dole had taken away his bag containing clothes and had not returned it.

The argument reportedly escalated after Dole allegedly abused Waghmare.

The FIR states that Waghmare then attacked Dole with his hands before picking up a stone lying on the roadside and striking him in the face. The blow reportedly left Dole seriously injured and bleeding.

Waghmare allegedly fled the scene following the assault.

Dole was later found dead, following which the Goregaon Police registered a case in connection with the incident.

The case has been registered under Sections 103(1), 115(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
