“Government Can Collapse Anytime”: MK Stalin Tells DMK Cadre To Stay Election-Ready

Political tensions in Tamil Nadu appear to be rising after M. K. Stalin claimed that the actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay-led government may not remain stable for long.

Addressing party leaders and district secretaries, Stalin reportedly told DMK workers that the current government “can fall anytime” and urged the party to remain prepared for possible early Assembly elections. He expressed confidence that the DMK would eventually return to power despite its recent electoral setback.

The former Chief Minister reminded party members that the DMK has overcome defeats in the past and can stage another comeback. He described the loss as temporary and hinted that fresh elections could even be held alongside the 2029 Lok Sabha polls if the political situation changes.

The present government, led by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), currently survives with support from Congress MLAs, rebel AIADMK legislators and outside backing from smaller regional allies. According to DMK insiders, instability could emerge if supporting parties withdraw support or if legal action affects the rebel MLAs who backed the government during the recent trust vote.

Taking responsibility for the party’s poor performance in the election, Stalin admitted accountability for the defeat, including losing his own Kolathur Assembly seat. He also encouraged DMK workers to strengthen their digital presence, acknowledging that Vijay’s party gained a major advantage through aggressive social media outreach.

“The politics we once discussed in tea shops must now be taken to social media,” Stalin reportedly told party workers while pushing for a modern political communication strategy.

To understand the reasons behind the party’s defeat, Stalin has formed a 36-member committee that will gather feedback from the public and analyse where the DMK lost support on the ground. The move is being seen as an effort to rebuild the party before the next major election battle.

The rise of TVK has dramatically changed Tamil Nadu politics by ending the decades-long dominance of the two traditional Dravidian rivals. However, sources close to the ruling camp say they remain confident that the government has enough support to complete its full term.
