ED Attaches Assets Worth ₹43.65 Crore in Electrotherm Bank Fraud Case

Ahmedabad: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Ahmedabad Zonal Office, has provisionally attached movable properties worth approximately ₹43.65 crore in connection with its money-laundering investigation against M/s Electrotherm (India) Ltd. (EIL) in an alleged bank fraud case.
The action has been taken under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, as the agency continues to trace the financial trail associated with the alleged fraud.
According to the ED, the latest attachment includes ₹25.08 crore lying in two bank accounts maintained with Yes Bank. In addition, the agency has provisionally attached 13,57,775 promoter shares of the company, with an estimated value of around ₹18.57 crore.
Together, the two categories of assets account for the total attachment value of approximately ₹43.65 crore.
The ED’s action forms part of a wider investigation into alleged financial irregularities and bank fraud involving Electrotherm (India) Ltd. Investigators are examining the company’s financial transactions and the movement of funds to determine how the suspected proceeds were generated, transferred or utilised.
The agency is also looking into the ownership and financial interests associated with the attached promoter shares. The freezing and attachment of such assets is intended to prevent their transfer or disposal while the investigation into the alleged proceeds of crime continues.
With the latest action, the total value of assets attached, seized or frozen in the case has reached approximately ₹81.97 crore, according to the ED.
The investigation is focused on establishing the complete money trail and determining the role of individuals and entities allegedly connected with the financial transactions under scrutiny. The agency is examining banking records and other relevant financial information as part of the probe.
The provisional attachment is a measure under the PMLA and remains subject to the statutory and judicial process. The latest action does not, by itself, establish criminal liability, and the allegations in the case will be determined through the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings.
The ED is continuing its probe into the matter, with further action dependent on the findings from its examination of financial records and other evidence.
