ED Arrests Ganguly Home Search Director Amit Ganguly in Property Fraud and Money-Laundering Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Kolkata Zonal Office, has arrested Amit Ganguly, director of Ganguly Home Search Pvt. Ltd., in connection with an alleged money-laundering case involving the fraudulent acquisition, control and transfer of properties belonging to multiple individuals and entities.

Ganguly was arrested on September 15, 2026, under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. He was produced before the Special Court at Bichar Bhavan, Calcutta, on September 16, which granted the ED four days of custody for further investigation.

The ED initiated its investigation based on multiple FIRs registered by the West Bengal Police involving alleged offences under Sections 120B, 419, 420, 423, 467 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to the agency’s investigation, Ganguly allegedly worked with associates and various entities to acquire and take control of valuable properties through cheating, forgery and other fraudulent methods.

The ED alleges that forged and fabricated sale deeds, agreements, powers of attorney, gift deeds, board resolutions and other documents were used to create and assert false ownership or control over properties. Land and municipal records were also allegedly manipulated using fabricated documents, with the aim of interfering with the possession and ownership rights of the rightful owners.

The investigation further revealed that Ganguly allegedly entered into joint ventures with landowners to obtain development rights over their properties but subsequently failed to honour the landowners’ lawful entitlements. He is also accused of fabricating documents to establish control over the properties.

The ED has identified valuable immovable properties and associated property rights arising from the alleged activities as proceeds of crime under the PMLA.

According to the agency, Ganguly is named in around 23 FIRs and has allegedly duped multiple investors and landowners using similar methods.

Earlier, on March 28, 2026, the ED conducted searches at premises linked to Ganguly. The operation resulted in the seizure of documents, digital devices and other records considered relevant to the investigation.

The agency stated that its examination of the seized material indicated that Ganguly allegedly had influence over certain local authorities and officials in matters concerning real estate projects and other immovable properties.

The investigation is continuing to establish the full extent of the alleged property fraud, identify the individuals and entities involved, and trace the proceeds of crime.
