Upset Over CCTV Surveillance, Kanpur Woman Allegedly Plots Father-In-Law’s Murder

Kanpur: What investigators say began as growing resentment over household restrictions and constant CCTV surveillance allegedly ended in a chilling murder plot inside a Kanpur apartment.
Pharmaceutical businessman Vineet Minocha, 63, was found dead in his flat on Saturday night after allegedly being stabbed 26 times. Police have arrested two men in connection with the killing and subsequently taken Minocha’s 36-year-old daughter-in-law, Shalu, into custody after one of the accused allegedly claimed she had hired him to carry out the murder.
According to investigators, Vishal, 30, a former employee of the family, and his associate Raj Kishore were arrested late Sunday night following an encounter. Police allege that Vishal told them Shalu had promised him ₹6 lakh to kill her father-in-law.
Investigators said Shalu initially attempted to mislead them but later allegedly admitted her involvement during questioning. The allegations are still part of the ongoing investigation.
‘I Had To Ask For Money Even For Small Expenses’
According to investigators, Shalu told them that tensions with her father-in-law had been building for some time.
She allegedly complained that Minocha closely monitored activities inside the house through CCTV cameras and frequently objected to her attending late-night parties or returning home late.
Despite the family’s financial standing, she allegedly claimed that she had limited control over household expenses and had to ask Minocha for money even for small personal expenses involving herself and her husband.
Police believe these tensions eventually became a motive for the alleged conspiracy.
Argument After Late-Night Party
Investigators said a heated argument took place between Shalu and Minocha after she returned home late from a party on July 28.
According to the investigation, the dispute marked a significant deterioration in their relationship.
Police allege that Shalu subsequently approached Vishal and offered him ₹6 lakh to kill Minocha. Investigators said ₹2 lakh was allegedly supposed to be paid on September 6, with the remaining ₹4 lakh promised 15 days later.
She allegedly arranged a duplicate key to the apartment and handed it over to Vishal.
During Janmashtami celebrations on September 4, Shalu reportedly called Vishal to the house on the pretext of giving him some items, where investigators believe the final details of the alleged plan were discussed.
Murder Plan Took A Deadly Turn
According to investigators, Shalu left for a party with her husband Subrat and their child on Saturday night.
Shortly after they left, Vishal and Raj Kishore allegedly arrived at the apartment. Security guard Madan initially stopped them, but Vishal reportedly called Shalu and connected the guard with her.
She allegedly told the guard that the two men had arrived to deliver medicines and should be allowed inside.
Police said the original plan was allegedly to suffocate Minocha with a pillow and make the death appear to be a heart attack.
However, the situation allegedly took a far more violent turn.
Investigators said the two men were hiding in the son’s bedroom when Minocha entered. They allegedly attacked him with knives, stabbing him 26 times, before fleeing the apartment.
No Valuables Stolen, Raising Suspicion
Shalu and her husband reportedly returned home at around 3 am and found Minocha lying in a pool of blood inside the bedroom. Authorities were subsequently informed.
A search of the apartment found that no valuables appeared to have been stolen.
That detail led investigators to suspect early on that the killing was unlikely to have been motivated by robbery and may instead have stemmed from a personal dispute.
Police Probe Son’s Possible Role
Shalu is currently in jail as the investigation continues.
Police are also examining the call records of her husband, Subrat, the victim’s son, to determine whether he had any knowledge of the alleged conspiracy or whether investigators believe he played any role in the crime.
The investigation remains underway, with police continuing to piece together the events leading up to the murder and verify the allegations made against the accused.
