CBI Arrests J&K Tourism Development Corporation Chief Accounts Officer and Polytechnic Lecturer in ₹2.3 Lakh Bribery Case

Jammu, February 8, 2023: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Chief Accounts Officer of the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) and a lecturer at Government Polytechnic College, Jammu, in connection with an alleged bribery case involving ₹2.3 lakh.

According to the CBI, the case was registered following a complaint alleging that the Chief Accounts Officer had demanded a bribe of ₹2.3 lakh from the complainant to facilitate the processing of payments against bills submitted by his firm. The amount was allegedly demanded through a lecturer working at Government Polytechnic College, Jammu, who was suspected of acting as an intermediary in the transaction.

The complainant had submitted bills to the concerned department for payment. However, the Chief Accounts Officer allegedly sought illegal gratification in exchange for processing the outstanding payments. The complaint prompted the CBI to initiate action and verify the allegations.

Following the complaint, the CBI laid a trap to catch the accused while the alleged bribe was being exchanged. During the operation, the agency caught both accused red-handed while they were allegedly demanding and accepting ₹2.3 lakh from the complainant.

The arrests marked a significant step in the investigation into the alleged corruption involving a public servant and a government college lecturer. The CBI subsequently initiated searches at the official and residential premises of the accused to look for documents and other evidence that could help establish the details of the alleged transaction.

The agency’s search operations were aimed at collecting relevant material for the investigation and examining whether additional evidence could support the allegations made in the complaint.

Following their arrest, both accused were scheduled to be produced before the Court of the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Jammu, on February 9, 2023, for further legal proceedings.

The case highlights the CBI’s efforts to investigate allegations of bribery involving public officials and intermediaries. Further proceedings would determine the legal responsibility of the accused based on the evidence and the outcome of the judicial process.
