BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit Begins Investigation Into RR Manager Romi Bhinder Using Phone In Dugout

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has initiated an inquiry involving Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder after he was seen using a mobile phone in the team dugout during a recent IPL match.
The incident occurred during Rajasthan Royals’ game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru last Friday. A video circulating on social media showed Bhinder sitting in the dugout next to teenage batting talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi while looking at his phone, sparking debate over a possible breach of the league’s anti-corruption protocols.
Following the viral clip, the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) reportedly issued a notice to Bhinder asking him to explain the situation. He has been given 48 hours to submit his response.
Arun Dhumal, chairman of the IPL Governing Council, confirmed that the matter has been referred to the ACSU for investigation and a detailed report.
The issue also caught the attention of former IPL chairman Lalit Modi, who publicly called for action after the video emerged online.
However, sources suggest there may be more to the story. Bhinder has reportedly been dealing with serious health concerns in recent years, including a collapsed lung. Because of his medical condition, he is allowed to carry his phone with him, though actively using it in the dugout is not permitted under league rules.
Those close to the situation say Bhinder was not making or receiving calls but was merely scrolling on his phone. They also pointed out that his health issues—such as asthma and significant weight loss—make it difficult for him to repeatedly walk the distance between the dugout and the dressing room.
According to the protocol, carrying devices like phones or laptops in the dugout may be permitted in certain circumstances, but their usage during matches is strictly restricted to avoid any possibility of match-fixing or information leaks.
The ACSU will now review Bhinder’s explanation and decide whether the incident was simply a misunderstanding or a violation of anti-corruption rules.
