27 Killed In Russian Strike Near Kyiv, 50 Residential Buildings Damaged
Kyiv: At least 27 people have been killed after a Russian strike hit the Bucha district near Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, officials said on Saturday. The attack also damaged around 50 residential buildings and triggered a major fire that spread through homes and a nearby restaurant.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the regional military administration, said emergency teams were working at the affected sites as authorities dealt with the scale of the destruction.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a warehouse in the village of Myla was hit, followed by a powerful explosion. He did not provide further details about what was stored at the facility but said criminal proceedings had been initiated over alleged official negligence.
Zelenskyy said existing regulations prohibit the storage of ammunition close to homes and other residential areas.
The strike also damaged a care facility housing elderly people and people with disabilities, along with several residential buildings, according to the Ukrainian president.
More than 370 people have been evacuated from the affected areas, with evacuation efforts continuing as authorities assess the damage and search for those in need of assistance.
