Uttarakhand STF Arrests Maharashtra Man in Rs 85 Lakh Online Trading Fraud Case

A 45-year-old man from Maharashtra has been arrested by the Uttarakhand Police Special Task Force (STF) for his alleged involvement in an online investment fraud worth Rs 85 lakh. The accused reportedly played a role in the financial transaction network through which a Dehradun resident was cheated on the promise of high returns from online commodities trading. Investigators found that nearly Rs 29 lakh of the defrauded money had been transferred into a bank account linked to him.

Dehradun, Uttarakhand: The Uttarakhand Police Special Task Force (STF), in coordination with the state cyber cell, has arrested a 45-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Sangli district in connection with an alleged cyber fraud case involving Rs 85 lakh. The case was registered in Dehradun in 2024 after a local resident reportedly lost a substantial amount of money to fraudsters who promised attractive profits through online commodities trading.

The arrested individual has been identified as Yasin Yusuf. According to investigators, he allegedly had links to the financial transactions through which the fraud proceeds were transferred. The police began tracking his involvement after examining bank accounts and tracing the movement of money connected to the victim’s complaint.

STF officials revealed that approximately Rs 29 lakh out of the total cheated amount had been deposited into a bank account associated with Yusuf. This financial link became an important lead in the investigation and helped authorities identify and trace the accused.

STF Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajai Singh said that the investigation revealed the movement of nearly Rs 29 lakh into an account linked to Yusuf. Following this discovery, an STF team worked to establish his whereabouts and coordinate with Maharashtra Police to carry out the arrest.

The police team eventually traced Yusuf to Sangli district in Maharashtra, where he was arrested with assistance from the local state police. His arrest followed an earlier notice issued by the STF directing him to appear in Dehradun for questioning in connection with the case.

However, according to SSP Ajai Singh, Yusuf did not respond to the notice by appearing before the investigating team. Police subsequently intensified efforts to locate him and brought him into custody for further investigation.

How the Online Trading Fraud Took Place

The case originated in 2024 when a Dehradun resident allegedly became a victim of an online investment scam. The fraudsters reportedly approached the victim with promises of substantial returns through online commodities trading, creating an impression that investing money through their platform or network could generate significant profits.

Believing these assurances, the victim allegedly transferred money, amounting to approximately Rs 85 lakh, but later realised that the promised returns were not genuine. The incident was subsequently reported to the police, leading to the registration of a cyber fraud case.

During the investigation, officials examined financial records, followed the money trail and identified accounts that allegedly received portions of the cheated amount. The discovery of a transaction worth nearly Rs 29 lakh into an account linked to Yusuf helped investigators establish a possible connection between him and the fraud network.

Investigation Underway to Identify Other Accused

Following Yusuf’s arrest, the Uttarakhand STF is continuing its investigation to identify other individuals who may have participated in the alleged cyber fraud. Police are examining the financial transactions and other available evidence to understand how the money was transferred and whether additional bank accounts or individuals were involved.

STF SSP Ajai Singh confirmed that further efforts were being made to trace and arrest other people suspected of involvement in the case.

The arrest is part of the police investigation into the alleged Rs 85 lakh online trading scam, which highlights how fraudsters can exploit people’s interest in investment opportunities by promising unusually high returns.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the financial network behind the incident and establish the role of everyone allegedly connected to the fraud.
