Thane Court Acquits Two Men in Robbery Case After Lack of Evidence

A court in Thane has acquitted two men who were facing robbery charges under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) after finding insufficient evidence against them.

The case was linked to a 2022 chain-snatching incident in the Kalyan area, where a woman had alleged that her gold chain was stolen. Based on the criminal records of the accused, police had also invoked MCOCA provisions.

However, the special court observed that the prosecution failed to present reliable and convincing evidence connecting the two men to the alleged crime. The judge also noted that there was no clear proof showing the robbery was committed as part of an organised crime syndicate for financial gain.

Due to the weak evidence and gaps in the investigation, the court gave both accused the benefit of doubt and ordered their acquittal.

The verdict highlights the importance of proper investigation and strong evidence, especially in serious cases filed under strict anti-crime laws.
