Sunny Deol Explains Why He Refuses Pan Masala Advertisements

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Sunny Deol has spoken openly about his decision to stay away from pan masala advertisements, saying he does not want to endorse products that conflict with his personal beliefs.

During a podcast conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, the actor was asked why he has never appeared in pan masala advertisements, despite several prominent Bollywood stars featuring in such campaigns.

Sunny Deol made it clear that he has no intention of changing his stance.

“I don’t do pan masala ads and kabhi karunga bhi nahi,” the actor said, adding that he has received such offers but has chosen to turn them down.

Explaining his reasoning, Deol said he does not believe in promoting products that he personally considers unsuitable. “I don’t want to do something which I don’t believe in,” he said, making it clear that his decisions are guided by his own principles rather than commercial opportunities.

The actor also revealed that pan masala advertisements are not the only projects he has rejected. According to Deol, he has declined several offers over the years simply because his conscience did not allow him to take them up.

“Kitni cheezein nahi karta because mera zameer nahi manta,” he said, adding that he accepts the work that he genuinely feels comfortable doing.

‘Why Don’t Ads Come To Me?’

During the podcast, Deol was also asked why he appears in relatively fewer advertisements compared with several other Bollywood stars.

The actor admitted that he does not have a clear answer.

“If I represent India and I represent the way of everything else, somehow ads don’t come to me. Why don’t they come to me? I have no idea,” he said.

Drawing a parallel with his film career, Deol said there was a period when films were also not coming his way, leaving him similarly unsure about why opportunities were limited.

His comments come amid renewed attention on Bollywood celebrities endorsing pan masala and related products. The issue has recently attracted scrutiny in Maharashtra, where the Food and Drug Administration issued show-cause notices to actors including Ajay Devgn, Shah Rukh Khan and Tiger Shroff over their appearance in a Vimal Elaichi advertisement.

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol continues to remain active on the film front. He is currently associated with Batwara 1947 and is set to appear in Nitesh Tiwari’s much-anticipated Ramayana, where he will portray Lord Hanuman.

For Deol, however, commercial endorsements appear to come with a personal line he is unwilling to cross — even when lucrative offers are on the table.
