Actress Ayesha Khan Says She Was Detained During Mumbai Protest, Shares Videos From Police Van
Mumbai: Actress Ayesha Khan, who will soon be seen in Dhurandhar, has claimed she was detained by Mumbai Police while attending a protest linked to the ongoing examination paper leak movement. The actress shared a series of videos on Instagram, saying she was taken into custody despite standing peacefully on the roadside.
In one of the videos recorded from inside a police van, Ayesha appeared visibly shaken and said her hands were trembling after being detained.
“I have been detained for just standing peacefully on the road. I didn’t say anything, I didn’t even start the protest. I was only standing there because my brother and some of my male friends had been detained,” she said.
The actress also showed several other people inside the police vehicle and questioned why they had been detained without any explanation. According to Ayesha, neither she nor the others were informed about where they were being taken.
She further alleged that she was physically pulled into the police van by several women police personnel despite not creating any disturbance.
“It took four policewomen to pull me inside. I keep asking the same question—why? I wasn’t shouting, I didn’t start any conversation, and I wasn’t even part of a group gathering. Why was I detained?” she said in another video shared on social media.
In a separate Instagram Story, Ayesha posted photographs of police officers with the caption, “Been detained for standing peacefully on the road. #AccountabilityWhere?”
Another video showed someone, believed to be Ayesha, repeatedly asking police officers where the detainees were being taken. According to her, the officers did not respond to the questions.
Before the reported detention, Ayesha had publicly expressed support for the ongoing student protests and urged media organisations and paparazzi platforms to give greater attention to the demonstrations.
Sharing a social media post by actor Omi Vaidya, she wrote that issues affecting students and the country’s future deserved more public attention than celebrity gossip and entertainment news.
