Shivani Kalmekar Case Takes New Twist as Family Alleges Police Brutality and Extortion

Buldhana/Jalgaon Jamod: The mysterious Shivani Kalmekar case has taken another dramatic turn after her father and brother accused the police of subjecting them to physical abuse and pressuring them to confess to a crime they say they never committed.

Shivani, who was earlier believed to be dead but was later found alive, became the centre of a high-profile investigation that has now raised serious questions about police conduct.

In a video statement, Shivani’s father, Bapurao Kalmekar, and her brother, Ajay, alleged that police officers forcibly took them to a forested area and assaulted them in an attempt to extract a false confession. According to the duo, they were beaten with sticks and physically abused after refusing to admit involvement in the alleged crime.

The family has also levelled another serious allegation, claiming that police personnel demanded ₹5 lakh in exchange for providing relief in the case.

Following the allegations, authorities have assigned the inquiry to Deputy Superintendent of Police Manisha Kadam of Deulgaon Raja. Speaking on the matter, Kadam confirmed that a preliminary investigation is underway and statements from all concerned parties are being recorded.

“The inquiry will be completed within three to four days, after which a detailed report will be submitted to senior officials,” she said.

Meanwhile, sources indicate that a Station House Officer (SHO) and a Crime Branch officer have been suspended for alleged negligence in handling the case, although no official confirmation has been issued so far.

The controversy is expected to come under further scrutiny during the upcoming visit of the State Director General of Police (DGP) to Amravati, as investigators continue to examine the allegations and circumstances surrounding the case.
