ED Raids AMR India Offices Over Alleged Loan Irregularities and Financial Transactions

HYDERABAD, September 12: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday conducted searches at the offices of AMR India Limited and companies linked to the group in Hyderabad as part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving loans obtained from Kolkata-based financial companies.

The searches were not limited to Hyderabad. According to reports, ED teams also carried out similar operations at multiple locations, including Kolkata and Bengaluru, as investigators examined the financial dealings and business activities of the companies under scrutiny.

The searches reportedly focused on the company’s previous loans, repayment records, ongoing projects and financial transactions. Officials are also understood to have sought information about projects undertaken by AMR India Limited and its associated firms at different locations across the country.

Sources said that A. Mahesh Kumar Reddy, Managing Director of AMR India Limited, along with other directors of the company, was questioned by ED officials during the operation. The agency’s teams, which reportedly arrived from Kolkata, visited the company’s office and linked business premises in Kamalapuri Colony near Srinagar Colony in Hyderabad.

Investigators are believed to be examining the circumstances surrounding loans allegedly taken by AMR-linked companies from Kolkata-based non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) several years ago. The investigation is reportedly looking into allegations that some of these loans were not repaid despite the completion of certain projects.

The financial transactions of the companies are now under scrutiny as the ED attempts to establish how the borrowed funds were utilised and whether there were any irregularities in their movement between different businesses.

According to sources cited in reports, the agency suspects that companies associated with Mahesh Kumar Reddy and others may have obtained substantial loans and allegedly transferred or diverted some of the funds to other firms. The agency is examining whether such transactions were in accordance with the terms of the loans and whether repayment obligations were fulfilled.

The investigation also appears to cover the wider corporate structure associated with the group. Mahesh Kumar Reddy is reportedly associated with several companies and business entities, including Bengaluru Divinity LLP, AMR Agro Farms Limited, A&M Resources Private Limited, AMR Envergys Limited, AMR Green Renewables Private Limited, AMARA Scapes Private Limited, Amara Avenues Private Limited, Aascot Builders Private Limited and AMR Malind Infra Private Limited, among others.

The presence of multiple linked companies has prompted investigators to examine their individual financial records as well as transactions between them. The ED is expected to look at loan agreements, repayment schedules, project-related expenditure and the flow of funds between associated entities as part of its probe.

The Hyderabad searches come as part of a broader investigation involving financial transactions connected to Kolkata-based financial institutions. By conducting searches across different cities, investigators appear to be tracing the financial trail and gathering records from various offices and companies connected to the matter.

During the operation, officials reportedly sought details of both completed and ongoing projects of AMR India Limited and its associated firms. The information could help investigators understand how funds obtained through loans were utilised and whether the money was used for the purposes for which it was originally sanctioned.

Financial irregularity cases involving corporate loans can involve complex transactions spread across several companies and locations. Investigators typically examine financial documents, bank transactions, agreements and corporate records to determine whether there was any violation of financial regulations or misuse of borrowed funds.

At this stage, the allegations remain part of the ED’s investigation. The searches and questioning do not by themselves establish wrongdoing, and the agency’s probe will determine whether any financial violations occurred and who, if anyone, may be responsible.

The latest action has brought renewed attention to the financial dealings of AMR India Limited and its associated companies. As the investigation progresses, further details could emerge regarding the loans, their utilisation, repayment status and the alleged movement of funds between linked entities.

The ED’s multi-city operation indicates that investigators are examining the matter across jurisdictions rather than focusing on a single company office. Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation and the evidence gathered during the searches.
