Quad Leaders Push for Peace, Security and Health Cooperation During PM Modi’s US Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States marked a significant step in strengthening international cooperation, as leaders of the Quad nations — India, the US, Australia and Japan — came together to address key global challenges ranging from regional security to public health.
During the Quad Summit held in Wilmington, Delaware, the four countries reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a free, open and stable Indo-Pacific region. The leaders emphasized the importance of peace, security and economic prosperity across the strategically important region.
One of the key highlights of the summit was the joint expression of concern over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Quad leaders called for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on international law, while acknowledging the severe humanitarian impact of the war on civilians.
The grouping also strongly condemned North Korea’s continued ballistic missile tests and pursuit of nuclear weapons. The leaders described Pyongyang’s actions as a threat to international peace and stability and urged the country to return to meaningful diplomatic dialogue.
In a major step toward regional disaster preparedness, the Quad nations announced the launch of a pilot Indo-Pacific Logistics Network. The initiative aims to improve coordination and rapidly deploy humanitarian assistance during natural disasters by pooling airlift and logistical resources across member nations.
The summit also unveiled plans for the first-ever Quad-at-Sea Ship Observer Mission in 2025. The initiative will involve maritime agencies from all four countries and is designed to strengthen cooperation, interoperability and maritime safety throughout the Indo-Pacific.
Health cooperation emerged as another major focus area. Addressing the Quad Cancer Moonshot event, Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s efforts in developing a cervical cancer vaccine and using artificial intelligence to improve treatment protocols. He offered to share India’s expertise and healthcare experience with partner nations.
The Prime Minister further announced support worth $7.5 million through diagnostic kits, sampling kits and vaccines. India also pledged to contribute 40 million vaccine doses to Indo-Pacific countries through GAVI and Quad initiatives, reinforcing its commitment to global public health and equitable healthcare access.
On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi held bilateral meetings with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in trade, security, space, culture and other areas of mutual interest.
Following the Quad Summit, Prime Minister Modi departed for New York, where he was scheduled to participate in the United Nations’ Summit of the Future and hold several high-level bilateral meetings.
The visit underscored India’s growing role in shaping regional and global agendas, with a strong focus on peace, security, humanitarian cooperation and public health.
