Eggs Allegedly Thrown at Ganesh Procession in Mumbai’s Mazgaon, Police Register Case
Mumbai : Tensions briefly flared in Mumbai’s Mazgaon area on Sunday night after organisers of a Ganesh procession alleged that eggs were thrown at the idol’s arrival procession.
According to reports, the incident occurred while the Ganesh idol was being brought into the area. The alleged egg-throwing led to a tense situation, prompting police to deploy additional personnel to prevent any further escalation.
Mumbai Police said a case has been registered under Sections 299 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is underway. Police also said the situation is currently peaceful and under control.
The incident has drawn attention as Mumbai prepares for the Ganesh festival, when large processions traditionally pass through crowded parts of the city.
The Mazgaon incident came a day after a separate tragedy in Mumbai’s Bhuleshwar area, where a massive Ganesh idol reportedly fell during its arrival procession. Two people were killed and five others were injured.
The victims were identified as 33-year-old Sanket Nevase, president of the Akhil Bhuleshwar Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandal, and 30-year-old local resident Brijesh Hemant Joshi. The cause of the idol collapse is still being investigated.
Maharashtra minister Ashish Shelar described the Bhuleshwar incident as deeply distressing and said the inquiry would establish what happened. He also said instructions had been issued to civic authorities to ensure greater safety along routes used for Ganesh idol arrival and immersion processions.
Meanwhile, police remain alert in Mazgaon following the reported egg-throwing incident, with authorities stressing that the situation is under control and the investigation is continuing.
