CBI Arrests Proclaimed Offender Masad Seikh in Bhadu Seikh Murder Case After Four Years on the Run

Mumbai, August 14, 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Masad Seikh, a proclaimed offender wanted in connection with the Bhadu Seikh murder case in West Bengal. The accused was apprehended in the Wari Bander area of Dongri, Mumbai, after remaining at large since the registration of the case in 2022.
According to the CBI, Masad Seikh had not joined the investigation or appeared for trial since the case was registered. The agency eventually traced and arrested him on August 14, 2026, using human intelligence and technical inputs. His arrest marks an important development in the investigation into the high-profile murder case, which dates back to March 2022.
Case Linked to the Murder in Birbhum District
The case concerns the murder of Bhadu Seikh, which took place on March 21, 2022, in Bogtui village in the Birbhum district of West Bengal. The matter was initially investigated by Rampurhat Police Station, which registered FIR No. 168/2022 on March 22, 2022.
The investigation was subsequently transferred to the CBI following an order issued by the Calcutta High Court on April 8, 2022. In compliance with the court’s directions, the CBI formally took over the case and registered it on the same date.
The transfer brought the investigation under the central agency’s supervision, with the objective of examining the circumstances surrounding the murder and establishing the alleged roles of those involved.
Accused Had Been Absconding Since 2022
According to the CBI, Masad Seikh had been absconding since the case was registered in 2022. He reportedly did not participate in the investigation or appear during the trial proceedings, leading to his status as a proclaimed offender.
Locating an accused who has remained out of reach for several years can present significant challenges for investigators. In this case, the CBI continued efforts to trace Masad Seikh and eventually identified his location in Mumbai.
The agency used human intelligence and technical inputs to track him down. Acting on the information gathered, the CBI arrested him in the Wari Bander area of Dongri on August 14, 2026.
The arrest brings the accused into custody after more than four years of remaining at large and represents a further step in the ongoing legal proceedings.
Chargesheets Filed Against Nine Accused
The CBI completed its investigation and filed a chargesheet, followed by supplementary chargesheets, during 2022 and 2023. These filings named nine accused persons, including Masad Seikh, before the Court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM), Rampurhat, Birbhum district.
As the case progressed through the judicial system, the trial was transferred to the Court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ), Fourth Court, Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal.
The case has remained a significant matter for the investigating agency because of the seriousness of the alleged offence and the need to bring all accused persons before the court to face the legal proceedings.
Accused to Be Taken to Kolkata for Court Proceedings
Following his arrest in Mumbai, Masad Seikh is to be brought to Kolkata for production before the competent court. His appearance before the court will allow the legal process to proceed in accordance with the applicable law.
The CBI’s action highlights its continued efforts to trace proclaimed offenders and ensure that individuals wanted in serious criminal cases are brought before the judicial system.
With the arrest of Masad Seikh, the agency has taken another step in advancing the proceedings in the Bhadu Seikh murder case. Further developments will depend on the legal process and subsequent court proceedings.
