CBI Arrests Proclaimed Offender Masad Seikh in Bhadu Seikh Murder Case After Four Years on the Run

Mumbai, August 14, 2026:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Masad Seikh, a proclaimed offender in the high-profile Bhadu Seikh murder case, from Wari Bander in the Dongri area of Mumbai. The accused had allegedly been evading arrest since the registration of the case in 2022 and had not joined the investigation or appeared for the trial proceedings.
According to the CBI, the arrest was made on August 14, 2026, following the development of human intelligence and technical inputs that helped investigators trace the accused to Mumbai. His arrest marks a significant development in a murder case linked to Bogtui village in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.
CBI Took Over the Case Following Calcutta High Court Order
The CBI registered the case on April 8, 2022, in compliance with an order issued by the Calcutta High Court on the same date. The agency took over Rampurhat Police Station FIR No. 168/2022, dated March 22, 2022, which concerned the murder of Bhadu Seikh in Bogtui, Birbhum district, on March 21, 2022.
Following the transfer of the investigation, the CBI began examining the circumstances surrounding the murder and the alleged involvement of the individuals named in the case. The agency subsequently carried out a detailed investigation to collect evidence and establish the roles of the accused.
Chargesheets Filed Against Nine Accused
After completing its investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet and supplementary chargesheets in 2022 and 2023 against nine accused persons, including Masad Seikh. The chargesheets were submitted before the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) at Rampurhat in Birbhum district.
The case was later transferred for trial to the court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ), 4th Court, Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal.
Despite being named as an accused in the case, Masad Seikh had reportedly remained at large and had not joined the investigation or trial proceedings since the case was registered in 2022. His continued absence led to his status as a proclaimed offender.
Intelligence Inputs Helped Track Down the Accused
According to the investigating agency, the arrest followed the use of human intelligence and technical inputs to identify the accused’s whereabouts. The CBI traced him to Wari Bander in Dongri, Mumbai, where he was subsequently apprehended.
The arrest highlights the role of intelligence gathering and coordinated investigative efforts in locating individuals who remain absconding in serious criminal cases.
Accused to Be Produced Before Court in Kolkata
Following his arrest in Mumbai, the CBI stated that Masad Seikh would be brought to Kolkata for production before the competent court. Further legal proceedings are expected to follow in connection with the ongoing murder trial.
The arrest is an important step in the proceedings surrounding the Bhadu Seikh murder case, which has been under investigation since 2022. The matter will now proceed through the appropriate judicial process.
The accused’s guilt, like that of any person facing criminal charges, remains a matter for the court to determine in accordance with the law.
