CBI Arrests Fireman in Udhampur Over ₹15,000 Bribery Case Linked to Hotel Fire NOC

Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir | 06 October 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Fireman posted under the office of the Assistant Director, Fire & Emergency Services, Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir, in connection with an alleged bribery case involving the issuance of a Fire & Emergency Services No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a hotel in Katra.
The case was registered by the CBI on October 6, 2026, following a complaint alleging that the accused official had demanded money from the complainant in exchange for processing and issuing the required fire safety NOC for his hotel.
According to the complaint, the Fireman initially demanded a bribe of ₹40,000 to facilitate the processing and issuance of the NOC. The NOC was required by the hotel owner as part of the necessary fire and emergency safety clearances.
Following negotiations between the complainant and the accused, the alleged bribe amount was reduced to ₹15,000. The matter was subsequently reported to the CBI, which verified the allegations and planned a trap operation.
On October 6, the CBI laid a trap to catch the accused while accepting the alleged bribe. During the operation, the Fireman was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant.
The arrest was made as part of the agency’s investigation into the alleged demand and acceptance of illegal gratification for performing an official duty. The CBI is now examining the circumstances surrounding the demand and the role of the accused in processing the hotel’s fire safety clearance.
The agency is also expected to scrutinise relevant documents and other evidence connected with the issuance of the Fire & Emergency Services NOC. Further investigation will focus on establishing the complete sequence of events and determining whether any other individuals were involved.
The CBI has stated that the investigation in the matter is continuing. Further action will depend on the evidence collected during the probe.
The case once again highlights the agency’s efforts to act against allegations of bribery involving public officials and to ensure that government services and statutory clearances are not misused for personal financial gain.
