Andhra Businessman Detained After Allegedly Firing Revolver Following Team’s Semifinal Loss
Andhra Pradesh : A real estate businessman was taken into police custody after allegedly firing three rounds from his licensed revolver outside a badminton academy in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool following his team’s semifinal defeat in a local tournament.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening during the Kurnool Badminton Premier League (KBPL), a tournament that had been running for the past four weeks. According to police, no one was injured in the firing, and the shots were allegedly fired into the ground.
The accused, identified as Kaushik, reportedly opened fire shortly after his team was knocked out in the semifinals. Police believe the act was driven by frustration over the defeat rather than any altercation at the venue.
Kurnool Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raghavendra said Kaushik, who legally owns a licensed .32 revolver, fired three rounds into the ground in a moment of anger after the loss. Fortunately, the incident did not cause any injuries.
Following the incident, police seized the weapon and took Kaushik into custody. Authorities have also initiated the process to recommend cancellation of his firearm licence by sending a proposal to the district collector through the Superintendent of Police.
Investigators clarified that there was no argument or physical clash before the firing. Preliminary findings suggest the incident was purely a reaction to the team’s defeat. Police also confirmed that Kaushik was a member of the Ananya franchise participating in the tournament and not the team’s captain.
A detailed investigation is underway, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
