17-Year-Old Allegedly Gang-Raped in Delhi Park by Men Posing as Policemen; One Arrested

New Delhi: A disturbing incident has been reported from South Delhi, where a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men who reportedly posed as policemen at a park near Kalkaji Mandir. Police have arrested one of the accused after an encounter, while efforts are underway to trace the two others who remain at large.
According to the complaint and the police account, the incident took place on Monday evening near Kalkaji Mandir. The 17-year-old girl had reportedly visited the temple with a male friend, who was also 17 years old. After offering prayers, the two went to a nearby park at around 7:30 pm.
The park is located in the area connecting Kalkaji Mandir and the ISKCON Temple. What began as a routine visit allegedly turned into a frightening situation when three men approached the teenager and her friend.
Men Allegedly Claimed to Be Policemen
Police said the three accused, who were reportedly between 25 and 30 years old, approached the girl and her friend and claimed that they were policemen.
According to the complaint, the men allegedly threatened the two teenagers before sexually assaulting the girl. Police said one of the accused allegedly threatened the girl with a firearm and a knife and sexually assaulted her. The other two men then allegedly sexually assaulted her as well.
The accused allegedly continued to threaten the girl and her friend after the incident, according to the police.
The case was reported to the authorities shortly afterwards. A PCR call regarding the alleged assault was received at around 8:45 pm. A police team was subsequently sent to the park, where officers began gathering information about what had happened.
Survivor Taken for Medical Examination
Following the incident, the teenager was taken for a medical examination, police said. Further legal action is being taken on the basis of her statement.
Investigators have also begun collecting evidence from the location and surrounding areas. Since the incident allegedly occurred in a public park, CCTV footage from the area has become an important part of the investigation.
Police teams scanned footage from the park and nearby locations to identify the suspects and establish the sequence of events. Officers also collected information about people who may have been present in or around the park when the alleged crime took place.
Police Form Teams to Track Accused
As the investigation progressed, multiple police teams were formed to locate the accused. Police received specific information about the movement of one of the suspects near DM Office Road in Amar Colony.
A police team reportedly laid a trap in the area after receiving the information. When the suspect was intercepted, police said he allegedly opened fire at the officers.
According to the police account, the accused was asked to surrender but allegedly fired three rounds at the police party. During the exchange, police shot him in his right leg and subsequently arrested him.
The arrested suspect was identified as Asif. Police said he works at Okhla Mandi.
Investigators are now continuing efforts to locate the other two accused. The police are also examining the evidence gathered during the investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged crime and identify the remaining suspects.
Case Registered Under POCSO Act
Since the survivor is 17 years old, the case has been registered under relevant provisions of law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police said efforts are continuing to identify and apprehend the two remaining accused. The investigation includes examination of CCTV footage, information gathered from the area and the statement of the survivor.
The authorities are also working to establish the complete sequence of events leading up to and following the alleged assault.
Incident Reported Amid Other Cases Involving Minors
The Kalkaji incident comes at a time when Delhi has reported several cases involving alleged sexual violence against minors in September.
According to the report, on September 13, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and killed by four people, including three minors, in Swaroop Nagar in Northwest Delhi.
Just three days later, on September 16, a 10-year-old Class 6 student was allegedly sexually assaulted inside a shop in the Sadar Bazar area of North Delhi. The report said that her hands and legs were tied during the alleged assault.
On September 21, another case was reported from Central Delhi’s Kishan Ganj area, where a six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 34-year-old man.
The latest case near Kalkaji Mandir has therefore added to a series of serious crimes involving minors reported in the national capital during the month.
Investigation Underway
Police are continuing their investigation into the Kalkaji case. One accused has been arrested, while the search for the other two suspects is still underway.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage and other information gathered from the area in an effort to establish the sequence of events and identify the remaining accused. The survivor’s statement and medical examination are also part of the ongoing legal process.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of young people in public spaces, particularly in areas that may have limited security or surveillance during evening hours. The investigation will determine the circumstances of the alleged crime and the role of each of the accused.
For now, police have arrested one suspect and are working to locate the other two. The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against the accused will be subject to the legal process.
