“Will I Be Cremated or Buried?”: Himanshi Khurana Opens Up About Faith, Love and Her Relationship With Asim Riaz

Mumbai: Himanshi Khurana has opened up about one of the most emotionally difficult chapters of her life, reflecting on her relationship with Asim Riaz and the religious differences that eventually played a role in their separation.

In a deeply personal conversation with Paras Chhabra on his podcast, Himanshi did not name Asim directly but spoke about a past relationship in which the question of embracing her partner’s faith became a major source of inner conflict.

Himanshi and Asim met and fell in love during Bigg Boss 13 and remained together for around four years. In December 2023, the couple announced their separation, saying that their different religious beliefs had led them to make the difficult decision to part ways.

‘I Felt Like I Was Betraying My God’

Looking back, Himanshi explained that her partner had spoken to her about the positive aspects of his religion and encouraged her to understand and accept them.

She stressed that there was no mistreatment involved and that her struggle was entirely personal.

“He never misbehaved with me, but it was my own choice that I did not want to do something like that,” she said, describing how the possibility of changing her faith had become part of their conversations.

For Himanshi, the issue went far beyond simply adopting a different set of religious practices. She began feeling that doing so would mean turning away from the faith she had known since childhood.

“I felt like I was betraying my God,” she said.

The thought affected her so deeply that she decided she wanted to visit important religious sites, including the Char Dham, before making any major decision.

She described the feeling as though she was saying goodbye to the places and beliefs that had always been a part of her life.

‘How Can I Remove What Is Already Inside Me?’

Himanshi said she eventually realised that faith was not something she could simply switch off.

She explained that even if she formally accepted another religion, her childhood beliefs and memories would remain a part of her.

“I said, if I bow my head before your God, automatically ‘Waheguru’ will come out of my mouth,” she recalled.

For her, that raised another uncomfortable question: if those beliefs were already deeply rooted inside her, could they really be erased?

She also acknowledged that the situation could have been equally difficult for her partner if their positions had been reversed.

According to Himanshi, people carry many aspects of their faith from childhood, making such decisions far more complicated than simply choosing between two alternatives.

‘Will I Be Cremated or Buried?’

Her questioning eventually reached an unexpectedly profound point.

Himanshi recalled asking herself, “Will I be cremated or buried?”

She said the question came to her subconsciously and made her realise how deeply questions of faith and identity had become intertwined with her relationship.

At the same time, she emphasised that people should have the freedom to make their own religious choices.

A Journey That Brought Her Closer to Herself

As she tried to understand her own feelings, Himanshi turned towards spirituality and pilgrimage.

She recalled undertaking the challenging Kinnaur Kailash trek, describing it as one of the toughest journeys she had ever undertaken.

Despite the difficulties surrounding their relationship, she said her partner supported her at the time and was happy about her achievement.

But reaching the destination brought an overwhelming emotional release.

“When I reached there, I cried. I cried so much,” she recalled.

For Himanshi, the journey became more than a physical trek. It became an opportunity to confront questions about who she was and what she truly believed.

The relationship eventually came to an end, but the difficult questions it raised appear to have changed the way Himanshi understood her own identity.

Rather than simply choosing between love and religion, she found herself looking inward — and ultimately recognising how deeply her faith was woven into who she had become.
