Vijay’s First Independence Day Speech: Gen Z Shoutout, Strong Message to Rivals

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay marked his first Independence Day in office with a speech that combined a message for the younger generation with a firm warning to political rivals.
Addressing the gathering from the historic Fort St George in Chennai, Vijay began his Independence Day address with a warm greeting aimed specifically at young people. “Vanakkam Gen Z,” he said, extending his greetings to Tamil people living across the world as well as the state’s younger generation.
The reference to Gen Z stood out in his maiden Independence Day speech and reflected Vijay’s effort to connect with a generation that has played an increasingly visible role in public and political conversations.

Vijay stresses state rights

Existing welfare schemes to continue

Among the examples he cited were the Amma Unavagam canteens introduced under the AIADMK government and the breakfast scheme for schoolchildren associated with the DMK government.
The Chief Minister said the focus should remain on whether a scheme helps the public rather than on which political party originally introduced it.
New announcements for newborns and ex-servicemen
The Independence Day speech also included several welfare announcements.
Vijay announced that a gold ring scheme for newborn children delivered in government hospitals would be launched on September 15, the birth anniversary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravidian leader CN Annadurai. The scheme, called the Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam, is expected to involve an expenditure of around ₹755.83 crore.
He also announced an increase in financial assistance for the daughters of ex-servicemen getting married. The assistance, which was earlier ₹25,000, will be increased to ₹50,000, with up to two daughters eligible for the benefit.
Monthly assistance for differently-abled ex-servicemen and their families will also rise from ₹5,000 to ₹7,000.
Vijay further announced that the pension for freedom fighters would be increased to ₹23,000, while the family pension for their dependants would be raised to ₹12,500.
Focus on social justice
The Chief Minister also used the occasion to highlight Tamil Nadu’s long-standing political emphasis on social justice.
He praised the people of the state for rejecting caste and religious divisions as well as the influence of money and muscle power in politics.
Vijay said his administration was working towards building a people-centric government and reiterated his commitment to eliminating corruption.
His first Independence Day address therefore combined several themes — youth outreach, welfare, social justice, state rights and clean governance — while also sending a clear political message to those challenging his government.
